2013 New York Tour

May 24-26
Conspiracy of Beards | 30 Men Sing Leonard Cohen A Cappella returns to the city that never sleeps for a one weekend tour with 4 great performances!

Live in Vancouver CD Coming Soon!

In 2012 Conspiracy of Beards commandeered a giant bus and traveled up the Pacific Northwest coast to perform in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver Canada, our first international show! It was an amazing journey, much of which you can experience in our documentary DVD, A Midnight Choir, which tells the history and origins of the choir and gives an intimate behind the scenes look at nearly all of our performances during our 2011-2012 season, including Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, our show with long time Leonard Cohen collaborator Sharon Robinson, our charitable benefit concerts, and our entire New York tour, (you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, then you’ll laugh some more). All of this is to say that we recorded our show in Vancouver and we are very excited to release the recording in the very near future. Stay tuned for details!A few of the videos from our DVD:

Jewish Music Festival & The Make-Out Room

Jewish Music Festival

Thursday, March 14th – 7pm

We are all aflutter about bringing Leonard Cohen‘s masterful locution to the 28th Annual Jewish Music Festival, and to share the evening with the musical moxie of Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird.  Come to see Conspiracy of Beards, but stay to have your mind blown by The Painted Bird.

Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird w/Conspiracy of Beards - 28th Annual Jewish Music Festival

The Painted Bird concocts a mixture of Klezmer, radical Yiddish song, political cabaret and punk folk, kept together by Kahn‘s amazing abilities as a songwriter, translator and performer; telling stories of outrageous incidents, poetically dark, tragically humorous and politically incorrect.

The Painted Bird has brought “Yiddish Punk Cabaret” to rock clubs, theatres, festivals and shtetls, from Berlin to Boston, Leningrad to Louisiana.  The band has been called “The Yiddish Pogues,” and Kahn was once described as “someone between Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits – but Yiddish.  ” Daniel Kahn challenges the borders between radical & traditional, lyrical & political, east & west, folk & punk, mama loshn & loshn hora.

Viracocha This Friday – Possible 2013 NY Tour – Our DVD, A Midnight Choir

Viracocha 2.15.13 – The inky shadows of Viracocha seem the perfect place for the dark harmonies of Conspiracy of Beards, and their interpretations of the poetic musical language of Leonard Cohen.  The Beards are excited to be complimented first by Wolf & Crow’s contemporary artifact of something haunting and timeless, followed by One Ton Sun’s six piece jazz stylings playing the music of Hans Jöbbe II, the reclusive Finnish composer active from 1957 until his violent death in Cleveland, OH during the summer of 1972.

Rumors of 2013 New York Tour are Flying – We don’t have all of the details yet, but it looks like we might be headed back to New York around the end of May!  The 2012 tour was a huge success with sold out shows at the Jack Hanley Gallery, Manhattan Inn, Glasslands, and The Highline Ballroom.  Check out this video of our adventures in New York: The Beards Take Manhattan 2012.  This video is part of our DVD video collection of the Conspiracy of Beards 2011-2012 season called A Midnight Choir.

Conspiracy of Beards 2013 New York Tour

2011-2012 Season DVD Available – Our friends at 12FPS, a San Francisco creative media agency, basically followed the Beards around for our entire 2011-2012 season documenting all of our shows, and creating dynamic, interesting, and beautiful video vignettes of all of our adventures, including our New York and Pacific Northwest tours.  We’ve compiled all of these videos, as well as interviews and some full performances into an entertaining and sometimes hilarious DVD, A Midnight Choir (available via Paypal here).  You’ll get the back story and history of the Conspiracy of Beards, as well as backstage shenanigans, and insights into the men who make the choir what it is.  You can watch a few of these video’s here: Conspiracy of Beards on Youtube.
