Jewish Music Festival & The Make-Out Room

Jewish Music Festival

Thursday, March 14th – 7pm

We are all aflutter about bringing Leonard Cohen‘s masterful locution to the 28th Annual Jewish Music Festival, and to share the evening with the musical moxie of Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird.  Come to see Conspiracy of Beards, but stay to have your mind blown by The Painted Bird.

Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird w/Conspiracy of Beards - 28th Annual Jewish Music Festival

The Painted Bird concocts a mixture of Klezmer, radical Yiddish song, political cabaret and punk folk, kept together by Kahn‘s amazing abilities as a songwriter, translator and performer; telling stories of outrageous incidents, poetically dark, tragically humorous and politically incorrect.

The Painted Bird has brought “Yiddish Punk Cabaret” to rock clubs, theatres, festivals and shtetls, from Berlin to Boston, Leningrad to Louisiana.  The band has been called “The Yiddish Pogues,” and Kahn was once described as “someone between Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits – but Yiddish.  ” Daniel Kahn challenges the borders between radical & traditional, lyrical & political, east & west, folk & punk, mama loshn & loshn hora.

Street Stage

Sunday, March 10th – 12-4pm

Street Stage is an outdoor pop-up performance space, kinda like a parklet, dedicated to free public performance throughout San Francisco.

We are excited to sing outdoors in the Mission district this Sunday, March 10th, in front of Dandelion Chocolate (18th & Valencia).  Music starts at noon and we sing from 3:30-4pm.  If you are out and about in the area, walk past humming along.  We’ll tip our hats to you.

Make-Out Room

Saturday, March 16th – 7:30pm

Conspiracy of Beards will once again open the evening at the Make-Out Room with the poetic songs of Leonard Cohen performed a cappella.  Then stick around for The Bogues with their annual St. Patty’s weekend celebration of the genius of Shane MacGowan & The Pogues.  This is always a lively evening not to be missed.

Tickets at the door – $8
