Conspiracy of Beards & We Became Owls @ City Winery Napa – 3/1/15
Join Conspiracy of Beards and We Became Owls at the Napa Valley Opera House for an evening of powerful, original americana/folk music, followed by original, a cappella arrangements of the poetic songs of Leonard Cohen performed by a choir of 30 men.
Well dressed in suits, ties, and the occasional fedora, the choir brings an energized live choral music experience out of churches and tabernacles and into the taverns, art houses, and theaters of the Bay Area and beyond. Transforming Cohen’s lyrics and simple melodies into complex 4- and 5-part harmonies, and with a wide variety of small ensemble and full choir pieces, Conspiracy of Beards achieves a sound that is both robust and tender, exposing the emotion and comedy behind Cohen’s words.
We Became Owls is an Alternative Americana band from Oakland, CA. Songwriter Andrew Blair and multi-instrumentalist Ross Warner began creating, writing, and composing music together in middle school. Influenced by the sound of Greenwich Village in the 60’s, the Texas of Van Zandt and Earl, and more contemporary acts like Wilco, Damien Jurado, Drive by Truckers, and Jeff Buckley, We Became Owls recalls a sound heard in the jukes, front porches, barns, and hillsides of a long forgotten era.
